After many years using Minoxidil Foam for battling my persistent hair loss, two weeks ago I finally decided to try a new treatment, a treatment which I am very excited about and have high hopes for.
In this post I am going to write about a topical Finasteride and Minoxidil treatment called Dualgen 15 No PG plus, and why I hope this could be the right treatment for me and for many people who suffer from male patter baldness.
What is Dualgen 15 NO PG plus?
Many hair loss sufferers know how it feels to be disappointed with a hair loss treatment. Except for oral finasteride (propecia) and minoxidil, most of the existing treatments simply do not work.
Though oral finasteride is very effective in stopping hair loss, it also causes many undesirable sexual side effects, and for me this is a definite show stopper. Minoxidil (at least the 5% version) is effective but only up to a certain point, as its effect slowly starts to fade over time.
Dualgen 15 NO Pg plus is very promising because it is a topical solution that combines finasteride and minoxidil in one treatment, but since it is a liquid solution and not a pill like oral finasteride it is much less likely to cause any systemic side effects.
In addition to finasteride, this liquid solution also contains a stronger 15% minoxidil(!) which should be more effective than the regular 5% version that I have been using for years.
Also note that this product does not contain PPG (Propylene glycol), as it is intended for people with sensitive scalps who don’t react well to PPG. PPG is the ingredient that causes scalp irritation and itching in many minoxidil products.
How to apply it?
Applying Dualgen 15 to the scalp is very similar to applying liquid minoxidil. You simply spread 1ml of the liquid over the thinning areas of your scalp using the included dropper, and wait for it to dry.
The only difference in application is that it only needs to be applied once a day instead of twice. Though it is not a critical difference, it is definitely a nice advantage since applying this stuff takes a few minutes, and sometimes I admit I don’t feel like applying minoxidil after a long work day. With this I don’t have to.
After applying it, hair should stay unwashed for a few hours (at least 5).
What I expect from this product?
Since I have a noticeable thin spot on my crown, I would be really ecstatic if this product can regrow a noticeable amount of hair and make my crown look fuller.
At the very least I expect this to stop hair loss or significantly slow it down. As I mentioned earlier, minoxidil foam alone is not enough anymore for my current condition, and I felt I needed to add something new.
I also hope that the topical finasteride inside dualgen 15 won’t cause side effects like oral finasteride.
The manufacturer promises that topical finasteride has much lower chances of causing sexual side effects, since it claims topical finasteride only lowers 25% of DHT in the body and 51% on the scalp (for a 1ml dose) as opposed to the pill which lowers more than 70% of body DHT and 40% on the scalp.
Sexual side effects are most likely caused from lowering too much DHT in the body, not on the scalp. So far I can say I haven’t noticed any side effects after two weeks of use, which is a great sign.
Some minor differences in comparison to minoxidil
One thing I noticed in comparison to minoxidil foam is that dualgen 15 leaves the scalp greasy until I wash my hair. It is not a big deal though, and I hardly even notice it anymore.
On the other side, it does not leave the hair feeling dry since the liquid doesn’t stay on the hair like minoxidil foam, but rather it sticks to the scalp if you apply it with the included dropper. So that’s a nice bonus as well.
Dualgen 15 is not intended for women, since it contains finasteride. Finasteride should especially be avoided by pregnant or breast feeding women as it can cause birth defects in male fetuses.
It remains to be seen if Dualgen 15 No PG plus is as efficient as oral finasteride in stopping hair loss and regrowing hair.
I think it is quite effective since I believe it really does significantly lower DHT on the scalp, and if it does then it makes sense that hair follicles won’t be as damaged by it and will produce better hair which will fall out much less.
I also think the combination of topical finasteride and a stronger 15% minoxidil has serious potential to stop hair loss and regrow a significant amount of thin hair, without the sexual side effects caused by oral finasteride.
I will be sure to keep you updated once I get a better understanding how dualgen 15 NO PG plus affects my hair growth and will also post a product review.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below. Also, if you can share this post with friends or family who might find this helpful, I will appreciate it very much.
